The family of a missing Kelowna woman is thanking the community for its “overwhelming” support since she went missing a week ago.
Chelsea Cardno, 31, vanished after leaving her home on June 14 at around 8 am to walk her dog JJ along Mission Creek. Her vehicle was found parked on Pasadena Road.
In a statement Tuesday morning, her family says there has been “no trace” found of either Cardno or JJ. The family has set up a Facebook page, Help us find Chelsea Cardno, and are asking the public to share its posts.
To help put everyone’s minds at ease, RCMP are looking into all possible scenarios. They are leaving no stone unturned and have not ruled any scenarios out,” the statement said.
The family noted that COSAR has searched all areas on both sides of Mission Creek from Gallagher’s Canyon to Okanagan Lake. A boat has also searched the mouth of the creek.
The Cardno family is also reminding people that they are managing the Facebook page dedicated to finding her.
“We have to read all comments in case there is information that needs to be forwarded to the authorities. Her mom and other close family members are also active on the page to read the comforting uplifting posts that most are making,” the statement said.
“Unfortunately there are some people that are opting to disregard, ignore and argue with information and replies posted by page administrators,” the family continued, explaining they hope things don’t get to the point where they need to ban people or turn off comments completely.
“We know most of you mean well with your comments and we greatly appreciate all of them, just remember we are already going through hell and don’t need anything added to that.”
The Kelowna RCMP will be holding a media availability today and Castanet will update this story with any new information. COSAR has since suspended its search, but may be back out this weekend.
Anyone thinking about going out to search for Chelsea and JJ on their own is asked to respect the water, which is still moving very fast. You should stay away from the edge of the banks, which are unstable and collapsing into the creek.
“If you find something that may be a belonging of Chelsea’s or JJ’s leave it where it is, do not try to retrieve it and send a picture to us through this page. We will sift through everything and see if anything is worth sending to the authorities to investigate further.”
“Again we want to thank everyone for the ongoing support we are receiving. It means everything to us.”
