MacBook Pro with M2 Chip (2022) Is Up for Preorder

Apple’s newest laptop is the 2022 M2 MacBook Pro, and it’s set to release on June 24. Apple says the M2 chip gives this year’s models a big step up in power over the previous machines, which came with the still-impressive M1 chip. If you’re ready to upgrade, you don’t have to wait to lock one in for yourself — you can preorder an M2 MacBook Pro right now (see it on Amazon).

13-inch Retina Display, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSDStorage, Touch Bar, Backlit Keyboard, FaceTime HD Camera.

Amazon has the newest MBP machines available in several configurations. You can pick either a 256GB model for $1299, or a 512GB one for $1499. Either one can be preordered in silver or space gray.

What’s New in the M2 MacBook Pro

The new 2022 MacBook Pro comes with more power and better battery life than its predecessor. Apple says you can get up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, though real-world usage may vary. It also has a bright Retina display, a FaceTime HD camera, and improved microphones, which should be good for the people on the other end of your Zoom meetings.

Apple promises the M2 system-on-a-chip offers 1.4 times the speed of the M1, which translates to up to six times the speed of Intel-based chips. Unlike the upcoming 2022 MacBook Air, these MacBook Pros include an active cooling system to maintain a high level of performance during demanding tasks like video editing.

The LEDs in the Retina display can offer up to 500 nits of brightness (which is very bright). The FaceTime HD camera has built-in processing to make you look as good as possible on video calls. This machine has the Magic Keyboard (which I can verify is excellent, as I’m typing on one right now), plus the somewhat controversial Touch Bar. If you don’t want a Touch Bar and don’t need quite this much power, consider waiting for the new M2 MacBook Air to go up for preorder, which I imagine will happen very soon.

In any case, if you’re in the market for a new MacBook Pro, this is the one to get.
