Armed Robbers Target Two Businesses in St. John’s

Two businesses were targeted overnight by thieves.

Shortly after 9 pm, police responded to Halliday’s Meat Market on Gower Street in downtown St. John’s where a man had reportedly threatened staff with a weapon while trying to rob the business.

Police say the 33-year-old man destroyed the cash register during the incident and was held down by staff until the RNC arrived.

He sustained minor injuries during the scuffle and was checked out by paramedics before being taken to the lockup.

The suspect was charged with armed robbery and uttering threats.

About an hour later, police responded to another armed robbery, this one at the Marie’s Mini-Mart on Thorburn Road.

A male suspect threatened staff with a weapon and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police called in the K9 Unit but are still searching for the suspect.
